Allies are welcome to join family and friends, but please be mindful that this space is designed to support our women, girls and gender expansive individuals.
-----
Elder Elaine Mayham blessed us with the name Niizh Manidoowag Odena, meaning Two Spirit Gathering Place, for our Tuesday night skate sessions.
She shared a beautiful teaching about the bear and the crane. The crane observed the bear’s gifts and fell in love with the bears gifts and wanted to be the bear. But,the crane also has gifts and should focus on their gifts.
A story that reminds us that we all have unique gifts and by embracing our differences and bringing our own gifts to share, we create a diverse and healthy community.
Elder Elaine also reminded us that Two-Spirit people have ALWAYS been a part of community, this is not a new thing. Two-Spirit people inhabited joy, laughter and happiness within their community. They are the ones whom people gather around and share their joy with everyone.
Pitikwé Skatepark and our Niizh Manidoowag Odena session on Tuesdays are a place where we want to celebrate every individual and the unique, beautiful gifts they bring to our community as a whole.
